“If you could distract him a little longer, I’d be much obliged. One of our other something something out last night.”
The whisper sez:
“If you could distract him a little longer I’d be much obliged. One of our other (patients?) ???ed out last night.”
…guests checked out last night.
How are people reading that? I even have a magnifier built into my mouse and all I get is illegible pixels…. ;P
Beats me! I meant for it to be illegible. 😉
Like seeing things in the random shapes of clouds. There is a part of the mind that tries to fit known ideas to incomplete pictures/ information.
The readers know that doc is telling Hunter something he does not want Jonah to know. The town is full of critically ill people. Some are likely to die. IMO most of us were pleased to see the dangerous Mr. Hunter cheering up sick young man. Mix with rabid eagerness to know what’s next. Sprinkle with half legible letter shapes and , Voila’.
Hmm, now I’m hungry … for adventure!
There are many kinds of magic. Making a sick child forget he is sick is one of the greatest.
And some magic is reading print so tiny that you need a microscope to read it.
I think the last two lines read, “. . . boy’s life ran out last night.”
Speaking of magic… that deck of cards isn’t the only thing turning invisible around here. Interesting that Hunter is willing to show the ring to Jonah, but not Doc Faraday. So that’s two things (both made of gold) that Hunter has concealed, via his left hand, from the Doc. Guessing he had the ring on while comforting Jonah because it reminded him of a similar experience from his past.
Oooo, intriguing! I want to say he was just safe-keeping the watch, but maybe he just doesn’t want to have to talk about the ring with someone who’d ask?
Who says he’s doing it consciously, or even that it’s him doing it at all?
We’ve seen plenty of proof that magic acts in very mysterious ways, after all.[/devilsadvocate]
I did not notice Hunter taking off his ring or hiding it from the Doc, where was that? I also thought he just held onto the watch, his most precious possession, because Doc had to get rid of the torn vest. What I found more noticeable, is that Hunter’s arm seems to be completely healed (waving it around in front of Jonah, out of the sling), yet as soon as the Doc appears, it goes back into the sling. Of course, Doc would have some questions to ask about those remarkable healing abilities.
Erin, I don’t have an electron microscope. Please stop that. Thank you.
Well I’m glad someone doesn’t; it wasn’t meant to be readable, but we’ve got all these CSIs magnifying and enhancing all up in….
We’re on mobile. We can zoom in really far.
“If you could distract him a little longer, I’d be much obliged. One of our other patients checked out last night.”
and the doc’s sick too…
Yep, Doc’s not lookin’ too well.
I think Doc’s already had the fever and survived, the marks on his face like pockmarks that are the leftover indication of the illness (after the bloody pustules are healed). But I could be completely wrong and they are an indication of the early stages of the illness. At any rate, Doc’s showing remarkable dedication.
(I don’t feel like I’m spoiling anything verifying that you’ve got the right of it.)
