Another late post, but actually I managed to get a day up (last week's went up Monday) despite my husband working long hours & this weekend, seriously diminishing my draw time, so hey.
Thanks for the update!
Great artwork. That background looks like it would be a pain to draw.
Ah and now–can we tell whether or not Hunter knows Vane is there? he could possibly see her but she doesn’t seem to see him……..and dowser??????? this could be something pretty scary for a “specter” if that’s what she is, in any measure.
Still loving the colors, especially the lighting in the third panel and the hat of that lady next to Miz Black. (I’m also wondering if my prospector guy icon thingy will come back this time, since it seems to have disappeared.)
This response is much belated, but as far as the avatars for users with Gravatars: there was an issue with the WP plugin that handles the assignment of the NTO ones. While it’s back now, the cache was wiped and no one will unfortunately have the one they used to, in all likelihood. If anyone got super attached I can probably manually give you your old one or something like it back, though.
Your work keeps getting better and better. Love it.
Hunter working the crowd like a playa.
First panel is a bit confusing, tho. It looks like like the blonde MC is extending his arm for a handshake, and Hunter leaves him hanging. But the lavender-gloved hand on Hunter’s shoulder in panel two implies no insult was felt.
Is it just me, or is there way too much glass in that room?
Does Vane look a bit worse for the wear, or am I just imagining things?
That one guy in Panel 3 looks really shady.
I loved the subtle morning light in the last chapter – particularly in town before the train left the station.
In t his chapter the intensity of the light seems like a theme itself. So much light overruns details and edges. With your usual sensitivity to the color and gradation of light, you convincingly flood this hall with light that still seems “inside” and makes the space seem huge and as glorious as a reef.
And the faces in these last pages have been fascinating. I stare at the intense features (and eye brows!) of the master of ceremonies above, or at the elegant taper of the MC’s figure and coat, or at the woman with the cigar in the first two cells.
And all of this sets up such a strong contrast with the expression on Vane’s face – and the very different orange light from her eyes, glowing out from under the shadow of her hat brim. That third from last cell makes a point, I think, of how much she is NOT looking at neither John Henry nor the speaker, but at the “Dowser.”
I’m also noticing how much people wear gloves here – the color and tailoring are another expression of their elegance, different from the utilitarian gloves we’ve seen in previous chapters.
I’m grinning thinking about the promises/hints of that exhibition poster…
