Now that was just uncalled for. Seriously.
I know! Seriously, taking his apron?
Damn! I gotta agree, she is a gun-crazy bitch.
Lesson for today – never argue with a crazy bitch wielding a gun.
And if she offers you money, take it. And RUN!
At first I thought that maybe the shooting was a little too far, but then I realized she’s reacting to the past and the present all at once, so then the shooting became awesome.
Also “cockchafing” is my new favorite word. I also like “apron”.
Note that she didn’t just take away his fingers, but also his lively-hood. Also, was “blacksmith” meant to be a joke?
I don’t think this was meant to be a joke. What we’ve seen of the humor in this comic is considerably more highbrow. It’s much more likely to be a historically accurate detail, since in the post-slavery west, blacksmithing was one of the few trades open to African Americans besides farming. Ex-slaves would have learned the trade on a plantations, because plantations had to be largely self-sufficient, even to the point of making their own tools. After slavery ended, they passed on their knowledge to family members. There were some pretty famous African American blacksmiths in the 1800s, including W.H. Smith of Georgia, who became one of the richest black men of his time, Gabriel Prosser, who organized a famous Virginian slave revolt, and Lewis Temple, who designed and forged the Temple Toggle Harpoons in 1848, the most successful whaling harpoons ever invented.
And that’s why you don’t have a flashback while holding a gun.
Clearly for me she had some sort of a big traumatism. I don’t think she is the good one, she is mad and she use her weapon on innocent people… but I think that she is not either the villain. Juste a girl that went mad and is seeking for revenge…
Dear me, such language!
And I do quoth what it be that they say:
“Bitches be crazy”.
Well, look on the bright side, at least she used her little bitty gun and not the big one.
And this is why we can’t have nice things.
Well, at least he is right handed and he shot his left.
Work is not gonna be easy, but not impossible even if the can’t fix those.
And she tried to do it without violence first.
She isn’t a people person. She isn’t concerned about what she has to do to achieve her goals.
I think of her more ae as true neutral/cneutral evil person than a full-blown chaotic evil person.
She has a vengeance to fulfill and it doesn’t matter to her what happens to you if you get in the way.
Wow, that fellow is reacting with considerable restraint to his fingers being shot off. I think my response would be more along the lines of “AAAAARRGHGHGH OH DEAR GOD THE PAIN”
Eh, with major injuries you don’t start to feel things until much later. It’s the body’s survival response; endorphins and adrenaline to aid your flight from danger. My arm bones nearly came out my skin once– I didn’t feel anything except weirdness until an hour later. “Hey wait, that’s not at the right angle at ALL…”
That’s right. I had an accident in work two weeks ago. I managed to put tips of two of my fingers into presser. It almost cut them with weigt of 500kg (I’m from Europe, sorry), which is almost what happened to mr blacksmith, and I didn’t feel the pain either. Well, I almost fainted and blood was everywhere, but not much pain. And thanks to anaestethic I didn’t feel it later, when they sew it together. But poor blacksmith… he’ll certainly have lots of “fun” tonight (Or he could get drunk. Anaesthetic too, isn’t it?).
Two weeks ago? Gah, you must still be on the mend, then. Feel better (and/or get drunk? 🙂 )
500 kg / 1102 lbs
Diamonds going to be a 6 million dollar horse.
Oh, I don’t drink. It doesn’t hurt anymore, it’s rather annoying 🙂 and my doctor said that “It looks very nice,” so it’s on its best way back to health. It will still need many weeks until I regain full feeling and maneuverability, but I don’t complain (Well, I do! :D), it could have been worse.
I should say something about your comic, of course, I and have only praise. It’s … well, my first impression (chpt 2, pg 13, think. I’m new, heh.) was that it’s just too professional for webcomic! I’ve been lucky and it’s both webcomic AND professional :D. And beautiful. That’s the overall feel of it, beautiful, especially backgrounds. So, thanks and keep it up :-).
Oh, that should’ve been reply. So….
Thank you very kindly for the praise, and glad the prognosis on your fingers is good. 😀
Feel like I should defend webcartoonists everywhere, though, and emphasize out that “web” and “pro” aren’t mutually exclusive. Sure, there’re some amateurs using the easy accessibility of the web to develop their skills but there’s plenty of folks paying their bills (and then some) off of spectacular work.
… I hope one day to fall into that latter category. 😉
Like what others have said about pain, the body has multiple ways of dealing with it. As mentioned there are endorphins and adrenaline, but those take a little time to take effect. lets not forget shock, which is basically the brain receiving the pain signals and ignoring them for survival reasons.
I have a good story about shock, my friend and I fell from a 15 ft. drop onto rocks by a creek trying to get to a sledding spot. my friend ended up slitting his knee open on a rock after we fell down it a second time (we were determined to go sledding), but we couldn’t tell because he didn’t feel a thing and was wearing black snowpants (no blood showed). We were bruised and tired so we went home. 15 min later there was an ambulance at his house, he ended up with 56 stitches.
I was initially gonna say “Yeah, shock!” to this and relate my own shock story but by the time I got to the end of your comment I decided to just say D:
Okay. I hate her. She just ruined a man’s livelihood. No love for her no more
To be fair, she gave him multiple chances. First she offered him money to leave, and when he refused the money she pulled a gun on him. Instead of backing away like any sensible person should have with a gun aimed at them, he started moving toward her menacingly, with a hammer in one hand and a red-hot iron bar in the other. At that point, he’s lucky she didn’t just kill him.
I no longer wonder, who’s villain and who is hero here; I wish her painful death slow enough to see her failure and hunters triumph… hope he won’t turn out worse… Great comic, awesome art and setting!
