How to escape your overly attached girlfriend? Summon a fiery warhorse and RUN !
Mr. Hunter: One man bacon factory.
I love Hunters ” Holy Crap! ” look after the pig Splosion.
Did he just summon a leather vest out of nowhere in the last panel?
The vest was in his right hand all the time.
But how those doors behind him closed? Mr. Hunter could not close them and they were ‘slammed’ from the inside (even when one of the pigs hits them at the moment when they are closed) – but why Miss Black would close those doors? Does she fear flames so much that she won’t give another shot? (even if the doors seem out of the range of Hunter’s voodoo)
It actually looks to me that the pig was flung against the door by the firestorm, which, in turn, pushed the door closed
The door opens inward– so it would only be closed by something pulling on the outside, or pushing from the inside. I’m guessing Vane was trying to escape death by fiery bacon (bacony fire?) OR that the wind/fire from Hunter’s voodoo created a vaccuum, sucking/pulling the door closed.
Flames consume oxygen. The spiral of flame he created caused an instant low pressure area, drawing in the air from all around. The air rushing out of the building to feed the fire caught the door and slammed it.
*gives you a gold star*
Panel 3: You can see through Hunter. He “phased” to let the bullet through without doing damage. I can’t tell if he knew he had that ability (hence the surprised look in the next panel) or not (the surprised look is for something else). I also wonder if part of his magic is powered by the spilling of blood.
Nah, the bullet passed just over his right shoulder. What you see is the transparent path of the bullet. I’m guessing it’s in there because without it, you wouldn’t see how close Hunter was to being shot, and you would see an apparently randomly exploding piggy. This is a great example of art vs realism: if you left that little yellow streak out, it might be more “realistic,” but would make less visual sense!
Annie already gave mentioned the bullet path thing, so I will handle why he had a shocked expression. While he certainly has to be getting used to her constantly improving scientific prowess and innovation in chasing him, it would be quite a natural reaction to have that look after feeling and hearing a bullet whiz by that close to you and then see what it WOULD have done to you, which is of course being rendered to chunky salsa.
I see that expression as a ‘Holy crap, there is NO way I would walk away if that hit me, there would be no mere scar left by that thing!’ When I consider all the scars and the seriousness of them, as well as all the crazy close shaves he has had with her and his very arrogant overconfident attitude towards her no matter how close the shaves are, to see that reaction from that bullet’s explosive quality, that one shot alone speaks VOLUMES for his thoughts as well as the severity of the situation for him.
And here I am thinking that it just might be sinking into his thick skull that she’s *really* trying to kill him. Sure, she’s shot him (bullets and grappling hooks), blown him up, and tried to kill him while he bathed, but those were just love taps in comparison to trying to BLOW HIM UP FROM THE INSIDE!
I hate to double post, but just as I hit the reply I forgot to mention something.
I don’t think part of his magic is fueled by spilling blood. however, there are plenty of hints that his magic is demonic/infernal in origin, so far from one panel of a brief flashback, it seems like he branded his flesh as a form of some kind of contract to gain those fire powers, and this flashback panel was set alongside doing the same thing to his new horse Outlaw. Seems like he forcibly sold the horse’s soul to Hell and turned it into a Nightmare he could summon for a limited time. And looking at this latest page, seems like the summoning requires a sacrifice of some kind which seems to be these pigs.
Do you think that maybe that wasn’t his flesh that was being branded in that flashback? 😮
yeh, definitely assumed that one was hers. …tho’ in retrospect I guess it could have been his arm.
Squidbunny, ya got to love the way we all dissect every nuance of your art work. Shows how much we just loving what you’re doing. 😉
Ha. Yeah. I have to consciously choose to look at it like that on occasion. 🙂
1) Target practice.
2) Stop chasing, he’s faster.
3) Set a trap, he’s arrogant enough to fall for it.
4) Eat a damn bacon sammich girl, you’re too skinny.
1: Agreed, with a side of: Pistols are not melee weapons. They are mid range weapons. If you are close enough for your target to grab your gun, you are too close.
2: She not doing too bad of a job catching up with him.
3: She did that already, with dynamite. She needs a better trap.
4: Agreed, assuming she has standard issue biology.
Hmmm, your #1 is an especially great point– Why NOT grab Vane’s gun at such close range? After her first surprise shot, he could easily overpower her with fire/brute strength/whatever. Why doesn’t he just turn and fight? Is Vane immune to fire magic? Or does Hunter just not want to fight her for personal reasons (the hinted romance), and if so, when’s he gonna snap?
I’m thinking she’s immune. The beginning 2 pages do show her (supposedly) walking away from her own funeral pyre after all.
Pigy noooooooooo! 🙁
Poor piggies! They look terrified. The second to last panel is perfect. Lovely swarm of fiery magic.
Did he just make a horse from fire and pigs?
So BBq pork for dinner???
WAIT A MINUTE! That door opens IN to the bath house, panel one, two and three. In panel four, if in deed the pig is being thrown against the door to slam it closed, that would indicate that the door opens out into the street. This does not make sense. So if the pigs body didn’t close the door, I have to assume that it is the vortex of Hunter’s black magic that closed the door, thus buying him some time to get out of Dodge…er Baron’s Crossing. Oh God, now I’m dissecting. Oi.
Those poor…poor pigs… D’=
Right? I think that’s the guiltiest I’ve felt drawing the comic so far. For what it’s worth, in my head, canonically, none of the pigs dispersed by the fire tornado are seriously injured.
Ans thus it arrives in the special afterlife reserved for beings mutilated by Hunter and Vanes chase.
If they continue at this pace, DEATH will have to assign a caseworker…
Awesome! It’s nice to see that the Outlaw didn’t just blow away in the wind.
Now they just need to blaze through Baron’s Crossing at 88 MPH and they’ll have met their town-destroying quota for the day.
Sulucamas, definitely not Hunter’s flesh in the flash back. It’s Miss Black’s, she’s being branded.
Aye, that’s what I was getting at. 🙂
I smell BACON!!!
Damnit Vane, you really got to improve your aiming now. Or do you just hate pigs?
Maybe her weapons aren’t too accurate.
I think what we shouldn’t forget: that shot missed his shoulder by a centimeter or so.
While sprinting down the stairs.
With entirely selfbuild weaponry from the looks of it.
And experimental bullets, wich may also influence the aim.
Yeah, you’re right on all that. Besides, I shouldn’t be an armchair critic when I can’t even plug a beer bottle with a .22 from 50 feet half the time. *hangs head in shame*
Yeah, you’re right on all that. Besides, I shouldn’t be an armchair critic when I can’t even plug a beer bottle with a .22 from 30 feet half the time. *hangs head in shame*
Hm … maybe I’m just too used to wild west heroes that shoot all the bad guys from the hip in a wink.
Check out the Mythbusters episode on different pistol shooting positions. From the hip was one of the least accurate…..
I think he calls her “Angel Eyes” because he knows she’s blind as a bat.
She has useless aim. Seriously.
